Welcome to Arts Round the Square
 

This Celebration of the Arts includes three full days of visual and performing arts in a variety of venues in and around Paris, Tennessee on September 26, 27 and 28, 2008 (the last full weekend in September each year).

Sponsored by the Downtown Paris Association, Eye Full of Paris partners include Commercial Bank and Trust, Friends of the Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge, Downtown Paris Churches, Paris-HC Arts Council, HC Heritage Center and the Paris Winery.

While many events take place in downtown Paris on or near the courthouse lawn, two events are scheduled at Lee Academy for the Arts and one event takes place at the Paris Winery.

The rain location for courthouse lawn events is the Christian Life Center of First United Methodist Church on the corner of E. Blythe and S. Poplar.

NOON ON THE SQUARE

Hundreds of music lovers crowd the square to listen to live country favorites from Layne Wrye, snack on lunches from local nonprofits and soak up the beauty of an autumn afternoon. Please bring your own chair. This event is free of charge. Commercial Bank's Noon on the Square takes place on Henry County's historic courthouse lawn. Chairperson - Carrie Charles, 731-642-3341

WILD FOR LIFE ART/PHOTOGRAPHY SHOW AND SALE
Friends of the Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge hosts Wild for Life Art Show and Sale where exhibits include photography, painting, sculpting and carving that depict the region's stunning creatures and scenery. The show/sale take place at Lee Academy for the Arts on Lee Street, six blocks northwest of the court square. The event is free to the public. There is an entry fee for artists.

ARTS 'ROUND THE SQUARE (ARTS)

Myriad artists, including potters, painters, a Japanese calligraphy/brushstroke painter, jewelers, quilters, stain glass and fabric artists, and photographers demonstrate and sell their wares throughout the day on the courthouse lawn. All artists will be demonstrating; some will be interactive.

It will take two stages to hold all the entertainment during ARTS: A variety of musicians perform throughout the day on the courthouse stage. These include:
Jamaica Me Happy Steel Drum Band - (7th clip down)
• Acoustic guitarist/singer Scott Myatt
• Acoustic guitarist Chris Schlegel
• Celebration -Award winning Youth Hand Bell Choir from First Baptist Church

On the South Poplar Stage (under the awning at First Bank) the Bethel College Music/Theatre Department performs music from a variety of songs from musical theatre as well as a hilarious half- hour of improvisation. Children's Theatre offers the plays "Three Billy Goats Gruff' and "The Mouse and the Raven." Their puppet troupe performs once in the morning and once in the afternoon. In between these offerings, local troubadour Jim Merrell entertains. Hungry event-goers can enjoy delicious local food offerings throughout the area.

Just three blocks off the square is the Henry County Heritage Center where a number of vintage quilts are on display in Treasures from the Attic. Stroll down historic North Poplar, enjoy the homes along the way and view this colorful display free of charge. Heritage Center hours are extended that day to 10am — 4 pm. Phone is 731-642-1030.

Live at the Lunch Room at Lee (a performance space)
The Lunch Room, the new performance space at Lee Academy for the Arts is the location for the Eye Full of Paris, Friends of the Refuge Live Concert featuring pianist Kayte Strong.

Described as Carly Simon meets Karen Carpenter meets Carole King, this is Kayte's encore visit to Paris after an exciting appearance during the Concert in the Woods summer series at Paris Winery. Attendees also can get a second look at the Wild for Life Art Show and Sale in the academy's main hall.

The show begins at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $15; $20 at the door. Tickets available at Jack Jones Flowers and Gifts, Court Square West, Downtown Paris (731-642-5252) and at the Refuge Friends' booth during Arts 'Round the Square.

Downtown Churches Rejoice!!!

Bring your picnic lunch and a lawn chair and enjoy an afternoon of eclectic music from downtown churches during Downtown Churches Rejoice! on the courthouse stage. Free event. Call Tim Williams at 731-336-5948 for information.

Concert in the Woods
Bring a picnic basket and blanket and get comfortable as the day cools down, the music heats up and the wine flows. Eye Full of Paris concludes on Sunday evening with three events in one at Henry County’s newest tourist destination, Paris Winery. The event features a live concert from Dirt Pilgrims, an antique tractor vineyard tour and two friendly competitions: best picnic site and tastiest morsels (see rules on the winery web site). Located on Harvey Bowden Road, seven miles out on Hwy 641 South. The fun begins at 5:30 p.m. Free event. Call 731-644-9500.
